Welcome to the Swedish Delegation for the 2030 Agenda.
The delegation is appointed by the Government of Sweden with the aim of promoting, facilitating and stimulating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
As an independent committee, the delegation is commissioned to assess the extent to which Sweden fulfils the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda; submit proposals for an overarching action plan for Sweden’s implementation; and disseminate information on examples of best practice in the area of socially, economically and environmentally sustainable development.
Collective ownership, inclusive participation and dialogue with stakeholders is central to the work of the delegation. The active participation throughout society is imperative to the successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The work of the delegation is carried out in consultation with cooperative bodies, local authorities, regions, government agencies, the scientific community, unions, the private sector and civil society. The parliament plays an important role for the sustainability of implementation efforts. Children and young people’s perspectives, participation and ownership are also key aspects of our work towards sustainable development.
The delegation’s remit
The delegation will produce a proposal for an overarching action plan for Sweden’s implementation of the 2030 Agenda, which will include national and international perspectives and commitments. Supported by analyses and background material from government agencies and other actors, the remit involves conducting a survey and assessment of the extent to which Sweden fulfils the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda, including a report on the areas in which further measures need to be taken. In its action plan proposal, the delegation will take its point of departure as much as possible from adopted objectives, strategies and action plans that may be important for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
The delegation will also firmly establish the 2030 Agenda and its goals, as well as compile and disseminate information and examples of best practice in the area of sustainable development, ensuring that these win attention.
The delegation will submit a proposal for an overarching action plan by 31 May 2017. The delegation’s remit ends on 11 March 2019.
